INAUGURAL ARAMCO TEAM SERIES BRINGS THE ENERGY TO LONDON

The Aramco Team Series is one of the most exciting new event concepts in the world of sport. Bringing some of the best female golfers in the world together to compete for $4m in prize money across four new events held in four destinations across the globe. The Aramco Team Series is the first event in golf which allows amateur players the chance to contribute to the result of the main prize and the series will provide unprecedented support for female professionals and gender equality in sport.

The inaugural event of the series took place in London on 8-10 July, 2021, at the prestigious Centurion Club, where some of the biggest names in women’s golf participated alongside 36 amateurs. Events in the Aramco Team Series are contested by 36 teams consisting of three professionals and one amateur, with scores from all four contributing to the result of a team prize.

In addition to the team competition, professional players also compete for the lowest individual score, with a $200,000 prize purse available from the overall pot of $1m, alongside world and Solheim Cup ranking points.

London welcomed an elite field made up of multiple major winners, Solheim Cup legends and many of the game’s rising stars. The US’s Lexi Thompson, Britain’s Georgia Hall, Charley Hull and Catriona Matthew, 2021 Evan Championship winner Minjee Lee plus double-major winner Anna Nordqvist and 2020’s LET Race to Costa del Sol champion Emily Kristine Pedersen were among those to step up to the exciting new challenge.

After three-days of captivating golf, the inaugural Aramco Team Series team winners, with an unassailable score of 41-under-par, were captained by Olivia Cowan, alongside fellow German Sarina Schmidt, India’s Diksha Dagar, and amateur golfer Andy Kelsey, a human resources director from Epping.

Meanwhile, it took a play-off to separate Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord from Thailand’s Atthaya Thitkul in the individual prize – both 13-under-par with the 35-year-old Skarpnord claiming victory. The now five-time LET winner also helped her fourball claim second in the team event.
