SENTOSA GOLF CLUB COMMITS TO BECOMING WORLD’S FIRST CARBON NEUTRAL GOLF CLUB

Sentosa Golf Club continues to be leader in sustainability for the world of golf and has recently made one of their biggest pledges yet at their hosting of the HSBC Women’s World Championship, a headline LPGA Tour event dubbed ‘Asian’s Major’.

The club announced it was aiming to become the world’s first ever carbon neutral golf club by March 2022. A bold statement, we know, but from a club who grinds down food waste to reuse it as fertiliser on the golf course and houses bee colonies, amongst many more environmental initiatives and carbon mitigation measures, it comes as no surprise really.

The Club’s commitment will see contributions from golf rounds over the next 12 months set aside to support the purchase of certified carbon offsets through regional Forestry or Blue Carbon projects, that will sequester atmospheric carbon while defending against deforestation and fostering conservation of forests, mangroves and reefs. And is aligned with Sentosa Development Corporation’s goal to make Sentosa Island a carbon neutral destination by 2030.

There was nothing neutral about the sentiment within the world’s media either when the news was announced, with the likes of Sky Sports News, GolfWRX, Golf Business News, Golf Australia and Irish Golfer all reporting about Sentosa’s latest pledge.
